Pricing and Portrait Process
A portrait is a unique piece of art that will be cherished for many generations to come. It will stand the test of time long after the family photos have faded. Together we will create an heirloom quality masterpiece.
Creating a portrait is a collaboration between you and the artist. The first step is to discuss the desires and details of the portrait you envision. I will help guide you in matters of composition, color, and size. Let your imagination drive the rest!
Prices are based upon the following criteria: number of subjects including pets; how much of the body is depicted, size of canvas; details of clothing, jewelry and props; and complexity of the background. Reference photos will be taken by the artist and when possible, live sketches and color studies will be completed. Subjects are depicted in actual life size.
Travel expenses, framing costs, shipping fees and State/City taxes are not included in pricing.
At the first meeting, we will discuss details, perform a photo session, and if time allows, complete live sketches and color studies. During the first meeting a contract is signed regarding details of the commission and a non-refundable 50% deposit is required. A second meeting may be scheduled if refinement of positioning of the subjects or close up pictures for jewelry and hand details were not able to be obtained at first meeting. Next I will complete a scaled down version of the final painting loosely depicting colors and composition and a head study in oil. These samples will be either emailed or sent Fed-Ex for your approval. A live sitting with the subject(s) if possible is performed once the portrait is close to completion. This is a good time for the artist to make any corrections/ adjustments the sitter may want to have applied. When the completed portrait is delivered, the balance is due.
